Drought affects the productivity of plants through reduced water availability, increased light levels and high temperatures. Plant Energy Biology researcher Dr Kai Chan (ACT Scientist of the Year, 2017) and his colleagues investigate the ways in which plants respond to and tolerate drought. Their recent discovery of a novel way plants can enhance their natural ability to conserve water has inspired the video VPC: Drought Proof. In response to drought, a cell signalling feedback loop enables plants to better tolerate dry, high-light conditions.
