Embryo of Dicot Seeds
Embryo of Dicot Seeds :-
A seed is a ripened fertilized ovule. It contains an embryonic plant, reserve food and protective coat. A new generation starts with the formation of seed. Embryo (kernel) is the future plant in miniature condition consisting mainly of an axis with an embryonic shoot and embryonic root. When the seed is sown in soil a new plant appears from the embryo. Near the junction of the embryonic root and shoot is attached a leaf-like structure that is called either a seed leaf or cotyledon. Two cotyledons are attached to the embryo in the dicots. All the flowering plants with embryos with two cotyledons are placed in the Class Dicotyledonae.
This video explains how to identify the different parts of an embryo of dicot seeds- pea, gram and bean.
